James Murphy has over 15 years expertise in the legal services sector managing law firms and the Bar Association, and consulting on law practice management issues. He is a strategic thinker with a history of turning strategy into results orientated action. Mr. Murphy has a proven track record in resource management and bottom line inprovement in Canadian law firms and legal organizations.
Accomplishments
- Completed over 30 consulting engagements for law firms, law departments and legal organizations across the country.
- Conducted practice reviews resulting in measures to significantly improve net income.
- As Executive Director of The Ontario Bar Association, developed and implemented a workable strategic plan which achieved key member driven outcomes and improved the financial performance of the organization.
- As Executive Manager in law firms, reduced hours spent by partners on administration and directed non-billable hours to practice development activities.
- Designed and advised several partnerships on appropriate compensation and draw systems.
- Initiated revenue plans directed at specific market segments, and implemented growth strategies for each practice group to develop.
- Developed and conducted key client interviews for feedback on a number of legal service parameters.
Mr. Murphy started his career in legal services management from a broad base of experience as a commercial banker where he managed a portfolio of professional service organizations.
